I need to be honest about this whole goal setting thing, my goal started out really as just an idea, or dream, all actions start there, right? Over the last year, I have shared this IDEA with many people. My thought process around sharing my IDEA was; the more I talk about it, the more likely I will manifest this trip into reality.

The greatest fear for me was this:  I have never been to Peru and I absolutely have no connections there what-so-ever. Now, don't get me wrong, I do have plenty of travel experience, but, there is ALWAYS a connection. So I talked and talked and talked,  by talking to just about everyone, I'm not kidding, anyone who would listen.  It was amazing all of the individuals I met that had been to Peru, either for short stays, or Peruvians themselves who now live in the US that happen to work with my sister-in-law, Chris, in St. Paul.  Amazing.  The universe opened up! By talking to others about going to Peru the idea became real!  Not only did the idea become real, but I was starting to develop actual goals or, safer to say, potential outcomes for the trip:

  1. Find a community and/or communities in the Sacred Valley of Peru that I can develop a longterm relationship with, a relationship that economically benefits that community, and stays within their cultural context.
  2. Find a source for alpaca yarn
  3. Find a source for finished goods, i.e. fingerless mitts

It was a start, though vague, a start.

NOW HOW DO I DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP IN A COUNTRY I HAVE NEVER BEEN, IN A LANGUAGE I BARELY SPEAK, IN A CULTURE THAT DESCENDS FROM THE INKANS??  hmmm
